Summer is upon us and with the rise of the unbearable, headache-inducing summer heat comes our yearly desperation to achieve that ever elusive “beach body”. Albeit many warnings about crash diets and the dangers of juice cleanses and eating-nothing-at-all diets, we plow on to achieve the impossible goal of looking somewhat in the same range of a how a Victoria’s Secret model might look like, strutting by the shore.

The truth of the matter is, you CAN achieve a “beach body”. How? Here are 3 easy steps.

Step 1: Look in the mirror.

Yes, you read that right. What you see is what you get. Contrary to popular belief, you are actually sporting your beach body right now, at this very moment. Your “beach body” is the same as your “going to work body” and your “Netflix-binge body”. The key to having a positive body image is accepting your body and owning it. Sure those skinny women gifted with tiny tummies and over-active metabolisms on magazines and social media are easy on the eyes, but that’s because society has programmed us to see them as the standard to what might be acceptable.
It’s not reality, people. While it is a fact that we have to take steps towards looking and feeling great by eating healthy and exercising, we should also realize that our bodies respond differently to fitness and will still look different from everyone else’s, no matter what we do. We are all made differently, packaged in beautiful bodies of all shapes and sizes. The sooner we realize and accept that, the more accepting we will be of our own beach bodies.

Step 2: Pick a swimsuit that flatters YOUR body.

Really look at your body and identify your body type. Do you have a triangle shaped body? Apple-shaped, perhaps? Hour glass or athletic? Knowing your body type is half the battle to looking fabulous. The next step is to shop the right swimsuit that suits your body type. Sport swim wear that flatters your angles and curves and you’re sure to look like the beach goddess you’ve always wanted to be.

Step 3: Strut.

Confidence comes naturally to those who FEEL good underneath their skin. If you accept and own your body, and believe you are beautiful the way God made you, with a little help from the perfect flattering swim suit, you would have achieved the fabulous beach body you have been salivating over, without the deprivation and the pain of crash diets and cleanses.
