5 Habits That Are Bad For Your Skin

Skin care can be tricky, there are some habits we have that may actually be bad for us and we don’t even know in spite of our best intentions. Make sure you’re not doing—or at least avoiding—these things to keep your skin safe.

Don’t:

1. Wear makeup while working out
Leaving makeup on while getting your sweat on actually clogs your pores from the buildup of excess oil, even more so at your forehead, nose, and chin area. Don’t let this be the cause of your breakouts.

2. Over-exfoliate
As beneficial as exfoliating is, you may want to tone down how often you perform the little ritual from everyday to maybe once or twice a week. Over-exfoliating may cause irritation and flaking, therefore making your routinely makeup application far more challenging than it should be.

3. Rub your eyes
The skin around your eyes is the thinnest on the face, and is the first to reveal signs of aging. Take extra care when removing makeup around your eyes by not rubbing but simply pressing over it with cotton soaked in eye makeup remover. Also, any form of pulling or tugging at the area around your eyes can cause wrinkles and sagging.

4. Rest your chin in your hand
This relaxed form isn’t good practice as the pressure of resting it over your hand can affect the shape, and lead to sagging, fine lines, and wrinkles.

5. Lick and bite at your lips
It’s difficult to not lick or bite at dry lips, especially when you feel just how rough they are, however these two habits only dry your lips more because of the saliva as it takes the moisture out of your pout. Your best bet is still petroleum jelly or lip balms.
